FAQ
- What's the difference between margin and markup?
- Margin is profit as a percentage of the price you charge (profit / revenue). Markup is profit as a percentage of your cost (profit / cost). They're easy to confuse: a 50% markup on a $100 cost gives a $150 price, which is only a 33% margin, not 50%.
- How do I find the price for a target margin?
- Divide your cost by (1 minus the target margin as a decimal). For a 30% margin on a $70 cost: 70 / (1 - 0.30) = $100. The second calculator here does this for you.
- Is my data sent anywhere?
- No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser -- nothing is sent to a server.
