FAQ

Why isn't a day rate just salary divided by 260 (5 days x 52 weeks)?
Because contractors and freelancers don't work all 52 weeks -- time between contracts, holidays, and sick days all reduce actual working days. Using 260 days overstates your real annual income. This calculator defaults to 46 working weeks (about 6 weeks unpaid) which is a more realistic starting point -- adjust it to match your own situation.
Is a day rate the same as a daily rate for full-time employment?
Not quite. A day rate for contract work is usually gross, before you cover your own taxes, benefits, equipment, and downtime between contracts -- unlike an employee salary, which usually comes with benefits and guaranteed hours on top.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser -- nothing is sent to a server.
